Learn to weave a handmade willow basket...
Saturday, January 27th from 1-5pm at the Laxey Institute
Learn from local legend John Dog Callister and weaving wonder Kevin Quayle how to weave your own handmade willow basket. Using willow locally harvested by John Dog and team, you’ll be able to choose from a range of colours and types in creating your own bespoke piece. This is the last basket weaving workshop of the year.
Each participant will go home with their own handmade basket and are welcome to make more pieces if they finish early and if there’s enough material left. Music and refreshments will be served during the lesson.
Hosted by Lovely Greens, tickets are limited to just 20 for the event. They may be purchased through the link below or by cash/cheque if you get in touch with Tanya. Ring 256474 for more information.

MILNTOWN BASKET WEAVING WITH JOHN 'DOG' AND KEVIN QUAYLE
NOVEMBER 18th 2017
Due to the success of our first 'Willow Basket Weaving Day' we have decided to hold a 2nd Class:
Come along and have a go at the ancient craft of Willow basket making!
Join us for a day at Milntown where you will create your very own willow basket under the expert tutorship of Master Weaver John ‘Dog’ Callister and Kevin Quayle.
You will also have an opportunity to wander around the beautiful gardens over the break and at the end of the class.
You can view some of ‘Dog’s’ work on the Estate if you take a trip to the Mill Pond – you will be greeted by our five delightful willow dragonflies. Each of these carefully crafted insects took almost two days to complete. With a 3-foot wingspan they are the size of Pterodactyls and have been carefully positioned so they appear to be flying just above the surface of the mill pond.
You will be provided with all the information, the materials and any tools needed. A sharp pair of secateurs though would be useful if you have them.
You will go home with a willow basket you will be proud of and memories of a wonderful outing to Milntown.
Timetable:
10.00am Arrival in the marquee - situated on the lawn by the main house.
10.15am Start of the class
12.00pm Break and a chance to wander around the gardens
1.00pm Return to the marquee for the class
3.00pm Approximate Finish Time and another chance to wander around the gardens.
Please note that the cafe is open throughout the event for you to purchase hot and cold beverages and if you would like to make a reservation for lunch then please call 818091.
Spaces Limited: 15
Cost: £35.00 per person + booking fees
